If you love the thick aroma of cigars wafting through the air while you dine, relax or enjoy some live entertainment, then a cigar bar is just what you need.  With North Carolina laws in place that prohibit most indoor smoking, we’re thankful that there are a few places left in Greater Raleigh where you can light up a beautifully crafted cigar.

Amra’s in downtown Raleigh is a cigar bar with the sophistication of a 1930s jazz bar.  This lounge delivers comfort, class and an extensive selection of quality cigars to pair with your cocktail, spirit or beer.  The knowledgeable staff at Amra’s is ready and willing to help you select your next cigar.

There’s nothing like a fine cigar over a tender, juicy steak.  There are several topnotch steakhouses in the area where you can do just that.  Angus Barn offers and extensive list of premium cigars from their walk-in humidor, including brands such as Arturo Fuente, Savinelli, Ashton, and La Gloria Cubana.  You can also find your favorite cigars at Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse in Cary and North Hills and Sullivan’s Steakhouse in downtown Raleigh.

Cigar lovers from all around also flock to Empire Cigars and Havana Deluxe in Raleigh, both of which are cigar-friendly favorites.  The next time you’re in town and looking for a quality cigar, visit one of these bars or view our comprehensive list.  Enjoy!

Rest and relaxation during vacation often coincides with many people’s favorite laid-back activity, reading.  For all of those bookworms out there, we understand that you might come to Greater Raleigh only to find yourself without a good book to settle down to when you’re relaxing in our parks, taking a break from sight-seeing at a café, or winding down at the end of an action-packed day.

Rest assured that there are many stores and shops in the area that can provide you with a much larger book selection than what you’ll find at the airport or random retailer.  While, of course, there are many Barnes & Noble Booksellers and Borders to sift through throughout the area, there are also several other bookstores that are a little more unique, with local charm.

If you’re looking for something theological or spiritual in nature, try Stevensbooks in Raleigh.  The store has more than half a million books on various subjects for you to explore, so come prepared to have a ton to choose from.

A hidden gem in itself, Falls River Books is unique in that it deals with used, rare and antiquarian books.  The interior is elegantly appointed with wood grain floors, beautiful fixtures and plush seating.  Here, you can bring your children and your pets as you browse aisles of rare leatherbound books, hardcovers and paperbacks.

Then, of course, there’s Quail Ridge Books and Music on Wade Avenue.  This well-known, charming bookstore specializes in fine literature for adults and children, with a focus on the South.  If you want to get a taste of local flavor, this is the bookstore to visit.

After water, tea is the second-most commonly consumed beverage in the world.  Loaded with antioxidant polyphenols, which have been demonstrated to possess anti-cancer properties, and containing virtually no calories, tea is as good for you as it is refreshing.  There are many tea houses in Raleigh that offer delicious, high-quality tea and relaxing atmospheres to wind down for a bit during your exploration of the area.

Located in Cameron Village, TeaGschwendner is a global leader in specialty teas.  They carry more than 300 varieties, ranging from simply delicious and inexpensive options to the rarest teas that are grown on the world’s finest estates.  If your timing is right, you’ll get to enjoy one of their many tea tastings during the week and learn while you sip.

Irregardless Café has a fairly large tea list offered all day, so you can “Make any time, tea time.” Their café’s high-quality teas are from places like Sri Lanka, Egypt, China and South Africa and include Oolong, Green, Chai, Rooibos Red and so much more.  Here, you can also grab a delicious bite to eat while you enjoy your tea.

To enjoy your tea in a truly upscale atmosphere, Herons at The Umstead Hotel offers a daily afternoon loose-leaf tea service.  This is the perfect location for a classic tea party or a refreshing afternoon tea break while exploring Cary.

These are just a few of the many tea houses in the area where you can find high-quality tea and the ambiance to match.  Refresh, rejuvenate and relax yourself during your next visit to greater Raleigh by making a stop at one of these inviting alternatives to a coffeehouse experience.
