Have you been looking for your next great shopping adventure?  Whether you’re hunting for furniture, clothing and accessories, original art or unique gifts, downtown Raleigh has a shopping scene that can fill your shopping bags with just what you seek.  Downtown shopping isn’t your average buying experience, as you’ll be immersed in an eclectic mix of locally run shops in the midst of vibrant downtown culture.

A welcome perk to downtown Raleigh shopping is the ease of access you’ll have to all the area has to offer.  There is plenty of parking available, and once you’ve left your car, you won’t need to return to it again until your shopping trip is complete.  Most stores and boutiques are within walking distance of each other, and if you’re feeling like catching a ride instead, you can hop aboard a rickshaw or the free R-LINE bus.

If this sounds like a shopping experience you’d love, then you can visit this site, where you’ll find a map and guide highlighting 32 participating retailers, a Great Gift Idea guide, and information about upcoming downtown Raleigh shopping events, such as A Taste of Retail, and Shop, Sip and Cinema.  The next time you visit Raleigh, make sure to delve into all the downtown shopping scene has to offer.

New Year’s Eve is a celebration of new beginnings with family and friends, where you appreciate the good in your past year and look forward to the good to come.  When the clock strikes midnight, the celebration can be made or broken by where you are and whom you’re with.  If you’re looking for the perfect place to be with those you love when bringing in the New Year, you should check out the Annual First Night in Raleigh.

One of the best parts about First Night is that you can celebrate alongside everyone no matter your age.  A 1,250-pound steel and copper acorn drops twice during this special occasion, once at 7 p.m. for the children’s celebration and once at midnight for everyone who won’t be up past their bedtime.  You might recognize this colossal, 10-foot tall acorn as the public artwork that sits year-round in Moore Square Park.

In addition to the giant Acorn Drop, there will be celebrations of the arts and community featuring performances in 28 indoor and outdoor venues throughout downtown Raleigh, as well as dance, theatre, multiple children’s events and fireworks.

Admission buttons are only $9 in advance and can be purchased at local Harris Teeters along with a few select other local venues starting Dec. 1st.  At the event, the cost is $12 for adults, $10 for children age six to 10 and free for children age five and under.

Birthdays are big deals, especially for kids.  So why not make your kid’s next birthday something to really remember?  Whether you live in Greater Raleigh or you’re close enough to make a day trip to the area, it will definitely be a great experience if you choose one of the area’s awesome venues for parties.

What’s the best way to keep your birthday boy/girl and friends happy?  Keep them active and entertained.  If you want to keep them busy and also be able to keep an eye out on them, then roller skating is the perfect activity! Jellybeans Super Skate Center in Raleigh has the best in-line and roller skating, not to mention awesome sound and light shows.  The kids can also enjoy exciting video games, prizes and Jellybeans’ special birthday party festivities.

Another great place that is especially good at keeping kids having fun, jumping, sliding and playing is Monkey Joe’s in Cary and Raleigh.  This indoor playground is all about keeping kids healthy and turning exercise into something fun.  If you’ve been looking for an opportunity to get your kid hooked on something besides his video games, then bring him and his friends to this awesome playground for his next birthday, and let the fun begin!

With convenient locations in Wake Forest, Garner and Cary, Polar Ice House is another awesome place to host a birthday party.  There are several birthday packages available that offer everything from goody bags and decorations to a personal party hostess!  Let the kids ice skate until their hearts’ are content then fill them up with delicious sheet cake or cupcakes in a personal party room.

When you think about a shopping mall, do you think of entertainment, holiday festivities and fun?  Chances are probably not, unless your shopping mall of choice is North Hills.  Raleigh is a popular shopping day-trip destination for the many towns surrounding the area, so how awesome is it that now you can get your shopping out of the way and enjoy an outdoor skating rink and family-friendly activities the next time you visit Raleigh on Ice?

The ice skating rink at North Hills is environmentally friendly and made in such a way that it provides a safer and easier skating experience for beginner skaters than refrigerated ice.  If you’ve got friends or family who have never set foot on ice before, then this is the perfect opportunity for them to try it out more safely.

Although the central attraction, the ice rink isn’t the only fun activity for shoppers during Raleigh on Ice.  Other special events are being planned throughout the event, including free admission on Mondays for skaters who donate non-perishables, Mom and Kids day, Skate Date nights and give-away days!

This awesome shopping and skating event lasts from November 20th to January 2nd, during which time you’ll definitely need to make a holiday shopping trip.  Grab your family and friends and head on out to one of the most festive and fun shopping mall events around!
